Time is the most precious commodity we have. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t express a desire to find more time in their day. When we deliver a presentation we need to be acutely aware of this. Do you remember the last time you were in the audience and the speaker went past his or her allotted time? How did you feel? If you’re like me you would have started to get a little frustrated and annoyed.
It’s bad manners to over stay your welcome on stage!
By going overtime you force someone else to cut something out their speech to make up for the lost time or, even worse, you make the whole audience late because you wanted to indulge yourself on stage.
When you are invited to speak to a meeting always ask how long you have been allocated. And, NEVER go longer than you were invited to speak for. It’s just good manners.
